WASHINGTON HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD OF CHICAGO

Washington Heights is one of Chicago’s 77 recognized communities and is located in the Far Southwest Side of Chicago.  The Washington Heights neighborhood of Chicago is identified as community number 73.  The approximate boundries of Washington Heights are 89th Street to 91st Street (North), the tracks just east of Robichaux Park and Wendell Smith Park to Halsted Street (East), 103rd Street to 107th Street (South),  and Hermitage Avenue to South Beverly Boulevard to South Vincennes Avenue (West).

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS HISTORY

Washington Heights was etablished in 1869 and was annexed to the city of Chicago in 1890.  At different times Washington Heights was known as Blue Island Ridge, Campbell’s Woods, Dummy Junction, and North Blue Island.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS TRANSPORTATION

Washington Heights is served by both the CTA and Metra.
