AVALON PARK NEIGHBORHOOD OF CHICAGO
Avalon Park is one of Chicago's 77 recognized communities and is located in the Far Southeast Side of Chicago. The Avalon Park neighborhood of Chicago is identified as community number 45. Avalon Park's approximate boundries are 76th Street (North), South Chicago Avenue (East), and 87th Street (South). Generally speaking, the Metra Orange Line is the boundry for the West.
AVALON PARK HISTORY
Avalon Park was initially known as "Pierce's Park" in 1888. In 1910 the Avalon Park Community Church led an effort to change the name to Avalon Park and succeeded. In the 1880s Avalon Park was usually a flooded marshland so homes were built on stilts. All that changed in 1910 when the sewer system was installed to help drain the area. This facilitated further growth in the area.

Metra provides Monday - Saturday rail service at the 83rd Street location in Avalon Park.
