The village is included in the Chicago Metropolitan area. In 2000, the village consisted of 20,821 people. It is located 3 miles from Oak Lawn, IL and 10 miles south of Chicago, Illinois.
Evergreen Park was first established in the year of 1828. The first railroad which arrived in the village was called The Grand Trunk Railroad and it arrived in the year of 1873. During the early 1890s, the area became a hot spot for recreational activities. Chicagoans were attracted to it’s beer gardens and picnic groves. The village was named after a park located on 97th Street and Homan Avenue.

Evergreen Park has 13 churches and is known as the “Village Of Churches”. The village also has a recreational swimming location called the Evergreen Aqua Park. This location offers a keyhole shaped pool, a kid’s play land, and a baby splash pool. Other parks and playgrounds include: Evergreen Park, Northwest Park, Southeast Park, and Mini Park.
