Greater Grand Crossing
Development in the area began in 1853. The community was annexed into Chicago in 1889, and “the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 further stimulated growth.”
Recent construction includes the Gary Comer Youth Center. This was paid for by founder of Land’s End, and also Greater Grand Crossing Native, Gary Comer. The youth center “is dedicated to providing a greater opportunity for young people in this neighborhood to practice, to learn, to study, and to sharpen their skills and intellect.”
